| Welcome! If you scratch build or buy and assemble discus launch
gliders, you will find RC Builder both a source of high performance
gliers and useful information. We offer DLG plane kits,
wings, fuselages and tails, and accessories for Discus Launch Gliders.
All New Discus Launch Gliders for 2010
All new LightHawk and LightSpeed production is now in version
III. Version II orders not yet shipped but going out in November
and December include some version III component upgrades
at no additional charge.
Blade and Razor wings and tails are now in production.
LightHawk III DLG
Our new LightHawk III makes changes to all parts of the glider.
The design target has moved to embrace high-power launchers. Average
pilots (most of us) will continue to enjoy the great
flying characteristics of our gliders, but the overall design is
beefier and incorporates unique construction materials and methods
to stiffen all components.
The wing remains one piece, has new proprietary
airfoils and a new
stronger spar system. The overall result is much stiffer. Flight
testing validated the stiffness, but alsdo that our new wings
have similar performance to version II wings. Skins are Kevlar,
with
carbon
spar rods
over hyper-accurate CNC-cut cores.
Tails are foam composite. Rudder planform is changed to have equal
areas top and bottom. This helps eliminate the twist on the boom
sometimes seen with very hard launches. Pitch control is via a
all-carbon V-mount and full-flying stabilizer.
The fusepod incorporates the same 2.4 GHz compatible lay-up, integrated
nose cone and hatch cover, internal tool-free ballast system, and
stainless steel pylon mounting. The boom is an all-new construction
incorporating special internal
structures
for stiffening.
In the kit all airframe components are completed, and much of the
plane comes pre-assembled. A comprehensive online assembly guide
helps you finish this superb competition class glider and get in
the air quickly.

LightSpeed III DLG
Version III of LightSpeed includes the same changes as LightHawk.
In addition, the inboard flaperon servo location can now accept
servos up to 10 mm thick and mount them completely inside the wing.
A 4
servo
option is now possible with the use of thin servos (D47 or ~8
mm thick) for the ailerons. The design target for LightSpeed III,
beside being stiffened for very high power launches, still favors
the launch and run style of flying.
